Information About Pet Friendly Shelters in Sarasota County

In 2004, Professional Pet Sitters lobbied Sarasota County to provide Emergency Evacuation Shelters that were pet friendly. In response to our pleas and those of many others in our community, they quickly made such shelters available. For your convenience, we have posted the list of 2006 shelters below and will keep it up to date as we receive information from Sarasota County. The pet friendly shelters are listed at the bottom.

A message from Sarasota County: Emergency Management in conjunction with the American Red Cross oversees emergency sheltering for impacted and displaced residents during times of emergency. Shelter openings may vary with each emergency. During an event stay tuned to local media or contact the Emergency Information Center for a listing of which shelters will be opened for an event. Shelter openings will differ by size and intensity of a disaster. Do not go to the shelter until you have verified that it is open. Pet Friendly Shelter Agreement Form
